Kalen Anderson is a registered professional planner with a personal and professional commitment to building sustainable partnerships, communities, cities and city-regions. She is the Executive Director for the Urban Development Institute – Edmonton Metro and previously served as Vice President of Capital Planning and Chief Planner with the National Capital Commission in Ottawa as well as a Planning Director and senior leader at the City of Edmonton for over a decade. Collaborative decision-making, successful relationship building, and strategic communications are at the heart of her practice. A passionate and dedicated city-builder, Kalen’s leadership is founded on a broad understanding of urban and regional policy, economic development, and community engagement to support growth and change.

Jason Syvixay

Director, Metro Strategy & Advocacy

 

Jason Syvixay is a registered professional planner and PhD candidate who has worked in non-profit and private/public sectors. At the City of Edmonton, Jason led precedent-setting initiatives like the Infill Roadmap, Missing Middle Infill Design Competition, and Zoning Bylaw GBA+ and Equity Toolkit. Prior to Edmonton, Jason managed the Downtown Winnipeg Business Improvement Zone, where he built and inspired a safer, more resilient, and inclusive downtown. Through media platforms such as the Winnipeg Free Press, Plan Canada, and Canadian Architect, Jason regularly convenes dialogue around pressing urban issues.

Peter Reeson

Manager, Policy & Governance

 

Peter Reeson is an expert in policy analysis, board governance, and research. He has worked across government jurisdictions and within the public, private, and non-profit sectors – like Elections Saskatchewan and the Hudson Institute in Washington, DC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Alberta and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Saskatchewan. Born and raised in Edmonton, Peter is dedicated to the city’s growth and prosperity, providing leadership on boards like the Alberta Motor Association.

Katie Schneider

Coordinator, Membership Services & Events

Katie Schneider is a hospitality expert, with more than a decade of experience hosting events big and small. She has worked in every corner of the hospitality industry and has experience with conference centres, banquets, hotels, restaurants, and arenas. At the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Katie led and supported events like the Chamber Ball, Golf Tournament, Mayor’s State of the City, networking and partner events, and multiple luncheons. She has a Hospitality Management diploma from NAIT and has a great deal of knowledge about wine, beer, and spirits.
